Great look, helps keep the garage cool. If you primary concern is a better R-value I recommend first putting in some foam panels, available from any big-box home store, then applying this reflective roll. Like other reviewers I also recommend getting your own 2 sided tape. I used carpet tape which is super sticky.
I have a 50 gallon water heater and it is more short and fat than tall and thin. My basement is mostly finished so it doesn't get that cold. I wrapped my heater in this and there was lots of material left so I just kept wrapping it. I didn't tape it all the way around just taped in the front so I can remove it if I need to for some reason. My water heater has the panel and then some long copper piece that hangs down several inches from the panel and then the drain below that. So in order to not completely cover that stuff, I made the jacket removable. After wrapping the heater, I had enough to wrap the pipes going up. My heater now looks like an upside down ice cream cone. I will know if this is helping when I get my electric bill next month. Inside the packing there are two wide pieces a round piece and a small narrow piece. I did have to cut another slit in the round one because I guess my piping is weird IDK. but I have an expansion chamber and I had to cut a sit for it. The two wide pieces fit the whole heater and I taped it in the front. Then I put the round one on top (didn't tape it down) then wrapped the small narrow one around the pipes it went two times around. Seems to be holding in heat. :)
Must have where the temperature drops. I was able to cover 75 gal with no issues.
Advice: throw away the foil tape provided and get 3m or equivalent branded one from Lowe's. The one that came it does not stick for more than 12 hrs especially where two blankets overlap.
I had to trim these insulators down to fit my smaller water heaters, but they helped with keeping the water hotter longer than any others I've used in the past. I can definitely recommend this product to help lower your water heating costs especially in winter.
